Art Spectrum Lean Medium is designed to be used in the 'fat over lean' oil painting sequence. Painting fat over lean is essential to prevent layers of oil paints cracking as they dry. Starting with Art Spectrum Lean Medium and finishing with Art Spectrum Fat Medium takes the guesswork out of layering oil paints.
The leanest thinning medium and the fastest drying, Art Spectrum Lean Medium will not wash out oil from pigment. Excellent for underpainting. Ideal for artists who are sensitive to the odour of turpentine.
The leanest medium you should use.Ready to use straight fron the container. Dries overnight depending on climate. The use of Medium No.1 is the safe way to achieve thin colour washes without destroying the binder of the paint. Also useful to clean and lessen the absorbency of pre-primed canvas panels and stretched canvasses.
Mixed with oil paint, Art Spectrum No.2 Medium is fatter and slower drying than Art Spectrum No.1 Medium and is used as the next medium in the 'fat over lean' oil painting sequence (made easy using the Art Spectrum range of oil painting mediums). Art Spectrum No.2 Medium on its own is also a great general oil painting medium.
Mixed with oil paint, Art Spectrum No.3 Medium is thicker, oilier and slower drying than Art Spectrum No.1 and No.2 Mediums and can be used as the final medium in the 'fat over lean' oil painting sequence (made easy using the Art Spectrum range of oil painting mediums). Art Spectrum No.3 Medium on its own can also be used as a general oil painting medium and leveling agent.
Art Spectrum Liquol Medium is a quick drying, transparent, painting and glazing medium. It is excellent for multiple glazes, where it will give great depth and subtlety of colour. Can be painted wet on wet, or left to dry before overpainting. Mix thoroughly with oil paint on the palette before applying.
